Overview

Japanese Consulate, Mumbai

The Japanese consulate in Mumbai is a 75-year-old hybrid RCC and masonry structure, which required refurbishment for its longevity.

Problem

  • Low concrete strength (10 MPa) and inadequate axial load capacity was observed
  • Additional strong room load over the columns
  • Corrosion damages were observed
  • Being a heritage structure, no demolition work was allowed.

Solution:

  • RCC members were treated for corrosion damages and polymer modified mortar was used to rebuild sections.
