Problem:
- RCC frame of cold storage was damaged after exposing to fire for longer duration
- Excessive deflections were observed in few locations
- NDT results indicated lower velocity in UPV test, implying poor quality of concrete
- Core showed porosity and lower compressive strength
- Bonding capacity of cement paste reduced when subjected to higher temperature
- Exposure to high temperature caused micro cracking and spalling in concrete
Solution:
- Repairing was carried out by grouting low viscosity monomers to seal the micro cracks and improving the micro structure of concrete.
- Spalled portions were treated by polymer modified mortar
- Additional steel supports were introduced to control the deflection
- Instead of conventional wrap system, factory made composite profiles were used
- Composites were fixed at site by chemical adhesive and mechanical anchors
- Project was completed in 60 days period
- Post Repair NDT result were satisfactory indicating improvement in velocity results
