Overview

Cadbury Factory Building

Problem:

  • Over 50-year-old factory.
The RCC structure was badly damaged due to corrosion of the embedded steel.
  • First major repairs undertaken for plant

Solution:

  • The area where repairs were conducted was completely isolated from food production area, with bison paneling and temporary mezzanine floor.
  • Damaged steel was treated with anticorrosive coatings and corrosion inhibitors.
  • Cracked sections were grouted with food grade epoxy grout to suit the standards.
  • RCC elements were rebuilt with micro-concrete and wrapped with GFRP
  • All external were treated with elastomeric waterproof paint.
  • Work was carried out and completed in phases as per schedule

Overview

Textile Factory at Vapi

Problem:

  • Due to a construction defect, beams showed shear cracks.
  • Beams were to be upgraded to carry extra load

Solution:

  • Proper covering of machinery to avoid any damages.
  • Cracked sections were grouted with monomer grout.
  • Stiffening of beams was carried out using steel sections.
  • RCC beams were wrapped with GFRP as per design requirement.

Overview

Failed Cold Storage RCC Frame, Navi Mumbai

Problem:

  • As terrace slab, beams and columns were subjected to additional load due to temporary shifting of extra consignment of goods.
  • Consequently, it led to local failure of structure

Solution:

  • Load on terrace was removed
  • Structure was immediately supported by putting additional props
  • Additional steel reinforcement bars were provided as per design
  • Grouting of low viscosity epoxy resin was carried out through all cracks
  • Corroded steel was treated with anti-corrosive chemical coating
  • Sections were jacketed using Micro concrete
  • All columns were wrapped with 3 layers of carbon fiber wrap
  • Entire job was completed in 15 days and has been in use successfully for last 4 years

Overview

Factory Building, Century Rayon in Sahad

Problem:

  • Attack of corrosive gases produced within the factory
  • Carbonation of concrete, reinforcement corrosion and spalling were the major problems

Solution:

  • Anticorrosive treatment on rebars, followed by corrosion inhibitor coating
  • RCC grouting with low viscosity monomer.
  • Concrete RCC sections were rebuilt with thixotropic mortar
  • Wrapping with single layer of glass fiber wraps at select locations.
  • Plastered surfaces were finally applied with coal-tar epoxy
  • All works were either carried out during maintenance shutdown or in working plants without affecting the regular production.
